The monster

One day, Jordan found a mysterious envelope lying on his messy bed. He started staring directly at it, his mind wondering what was happening. Jordan felt curious. He really couldn't open it. It was too risky. Still, he found a voice arguing he should open it. The letter could be describing something magical or wonderful.  With a trembling hand, Jordan slowly stretched his fingers for the dusty letter. As soon as his fingertips touched on the sandy surface, they teared it open. Jordan looked at it closely. In emerald-green ink, it simply said: Come to the corridor running down to your dining area. Suddenly, a squeaky voice cried, "What are you doing, Jordan?" Jordan nearly jumped out of his skin. "Zena," he groaned. "Yes?" said Zena said sweetly. "Just come with me." So the pair went down the corridor and just before he reached the dining room, Jordan lost footing, plummeting towards a dusty ground. Jordan looked up as a struggling Zena slamm...

The Magic Stone

Once upon a time, there lived a small, poor boy called Zane. His house was a pile of sticks and leaves and every night he had to sleep on the rough grass. The boys at his school teased and laughed at him, leaving him broken in tears. "I don't like this life," he muttered to himself one night, his back aching. As he finally got to sleep, a storm rumbled, waking him up with fright. The thunder rolled and boomed in the sky, while the lightning hit the ground. Zane rolled up his thin, scratchy blanket and ran away. He ran like a cheetah through the pouring rain, his jacket flying out behind him. He tripped over a stone and fell down. Then, his world was enveloped by darkness. Once he woke up, he realized he was in a wood. Birds chirped cheerfully and bounded off from their nests. Foxes prowled around the trees, sneaking carefully, looking for prey to consume. Wolves howled in the distance, their cries heard all over the forest. Suddenly, his friend, Michael, was looking at hi...

Heroes

John was with his friends when a storm hit. It blew the trees and whipped up the waves.  S uddenly, the waves grew higher, reaching for the sky. “Oh no!”  John cried to his friends. Before he could even run, the waves were eating up the sandy beach. The water dissolved the sand, then came for the people. Everyone screamed, throwing whatever they had in their hands. John was swept away easily by the powerful waves. He looked up and saw a palm tree curving down towards him. “Help!” John shouted. As the tree crashed down on him, two arms grabbed him by the shoulders and clutched them. They threw him out off the tree's way as it crashed into the sea. John slowly felt the aches in his arms and legs. Slowly, he closed his eyes and drifted away. He woke up on the sand with Jack, his best friend staring. He realized that Jack was the one that saved him. Now he always called Jack his hero.

AN EMBARRASSING EXPERIENCE

One day, John, a young twenty-three-year-old, decided to go on a holiday with all his friends. He rang them up and arranged to go on the Thursday the 25 th .   They all agreed that he would be the driver. They arrived on the day before the holiday, with their baggage piled onto their hands. John had been very excited for the big day. His insides shook with laughter. He loved being with his friends, especially on holidays like this. He was thinking of drinking cocktails and screaming with joy when they arrived. “That’s all of them,” panted Max, exhausted from his effort. “We can leave now.”   “Hooray!” everyone cried, holding their cocktails in the air, then gulping it down their throat. They enjoyed the bus drive, seeing the young lamb and cattle graze the grass and held their hands outside the window, feeling the soft breeze flowing through their fingers. Finally, they came to a stop, which was the motel. “At last!” John shouted. Although the sky became dark, the...

Time Travel

One day, Sam found a mysterious golden cube perched on his bedroom windowsill. The cube shined like the sun, its bright edges flashing into his eyes. Soon, his younger brother, John, opened the door. “Let’s touch it,” he said, curious. Sam held John’s hand tightly as they reached forward to touch its glimmering sides. As their fingers grappled around the cube, the world disappeared, sending them into a void. “What’s going on?” Sam cried frantically. “Oh, calm down,” groaned John. “You’re always like this.” Sam was always anxious about everything, like sending his brother down a steep slide. His insides rattled and his face turned to a frightened, nervous expression whenever he felt like he was in trouble. His brother, John, was the opposite. He was like a daredevil, always trying something new.   Suddenly, the void turned into a sleek city. They landed onto the footpath, knocking the wind out of them. When they looked up, they saw flying cars, shiny trains and buildings ...

The gate

Doug was waiting for his appointment with the detective in the Saint detective center. His younger sister had vanished one morning and he had no idea why. As a young 13-year-old, it seemed like he was too young to find her, but he was determined to. Finally, the clock ticked four o’clock and he was welcomed politely. “Sit down,” the detective told him, pointing to the chair. As soon as he plopped down, the detective vanished into a world of blue. Suddenly, the world went black, plunging him into darkness. He opened his eyes and saw his body lying on the grass. Doug stood up nervously, hoping he was not in danger. In front of him lay a black polished gate. There was a key stuck inside the keyhole, radiating a mysterious feeling. Doug opened the gate and stepped back as they opened slowly. An army of robots came marching out, one of them holding his sister in its arms. Doug felt a familiar surge of anger. His eyes blazed with rage as the robot holding her came near. This was wh...

WEEKENDS SHOULD BE 3 DAYS LONG

WEEKENDS SHOULD BE 3 DAYS LONG   Planning: Recharge, family and prepare   Persuasive: WEEKENDS SHOULD BE 3 DAYS LONG   I strongly believe that it is sensible to agree that weekends should be three days long. This is because longer weekends can help us relax, meet with family and prepare for certain events. Longer weekends help us to be more productive.   Weekends help everyone to get ready, both adults and children. Let’s see why longer weekends can help us more. Firstly, longer weekends help everyone relax. Children will be tired from studying at school and adults will be exhausted from their week at work. During weekends, everyone flops onto the bed or couch and has a snooze. If we increase this relaxation, there won’t be any child or adult that comes with dark shadows under their eyes. This is why we must have longer weekends. In addition to that, longer weekends allow us to meet with family and friends. This is because weekends give us ti...

Persuasive: SHOULD STUDENTS BRING MOBILE PHONES TO SCHOOL?

I strongly believe that it is unnecessary to bring mobile phones to school. This is because phones can be distracting, there could be inappropriate things and they can be used to cheat while completing tests and exams. Mobile phones are not good to be looking at during everyday life, especially for children. Children can use their time to play and learn instead of watching things on their phone. Let’s dive deeper to see how mobile phones can be harmful to children. Firstly, mobile phones can be distracting to you and other children. This is because mobile phones can ring at any time, for calls, texts and notifications. Some may argue that texting and calling is important, but isn’t it better to pick them up silently rather than disturbing them, the whole class and the teacher, who all may be engaged with their own work? This is why pupils must not bring mobile phones to school. In addition to that, children’s phones may be filled with inappropriate things. Social media is not ...

The Map

“Help!” John cried as he lost footing, “Help!” Crash! “Ben!” John called out, tangling himself in the ropes. Then suddenly, John was falling down into the mouth of the cave. He landed on the sandy floor, coughing. “John?” John slowly opened his eyes. Ben was towering on top of him, holding a map in his hands. The map shone with an ancient air, the crumblings and remakes it had survived. Now it left itself in Ben’s hands, not abandoned any more. Ben pointed to the markings excitedly. “Let’s follow this map!”  John thought it was too dangerous, for who knows what could be coming for him. It could be the choice between life and death. Ben persuaded him to come and when John could stand it no longer, he followed Ben into the trecharous waterways. John came out of the waterfall, his clothes soaked and muddy. He took off his jacket and put it in his backpack. They both came to a stop because there were seven holes and they weren’t sure of which one to go through. “Ben?” questioned...

THE BOX

Image
One mysterious day, a brown, cardboard box was sitting neatly on Max’s dinosaur sheet covered bed. He opened with a frown of confusion and suspicion. Suddenly, the lid slipped unprecedently from his fingers, leaving him in state of shock. BOOM!   Max was forced away from the brown box, his every nerve rattling inside him. He crashed into the hard wall, plunging him into a dark world. When he woke up, he saw flames flickering on his burned shoes and shrieked with pain and anger. Shaking, he stood up and ran as fast as he could.     The home behind him burst into flames, tiles smashing, windows cracking and the wood falling, eaten by the ravenous fire. Max turned around and bid a silent goodbye to his home, his face broken and teared by the heavy emotions that lingered near his depressed heart.   Struggling, he pulled on with his journey, hoping to find a safe place to stay. On the way, he passed beautiful fields, swaying trees and birds singing, rad...
