Time travel
One day, Sam found a mysterious golden cube perched on his bedroom windowsill. The cube shined like the sun, its bright edges flashing into his eyes. Soon, his younger brother, John, opened the door. “Let’s touch it,” he said, curious. Sam held John’s hand tightly as they reached forward to touch its glimmering sides. As their fingers grappled around the cube, the world disappeared, sending them into a void.
“What’s going on?” Sam cried frantically. “Oh, calm down,” groaned
John. “You’re always like this.” Sam was always anxious about everything, like
sending his brother down a steep slide. His insides rattled and his face turned
to a frightened, nervous expression whenever he felt like he was in trouble.
His brother, John, was the opposite. He was like a daredevil, always trying
something new.
Suddenly, the void turned
into a sleek city. They landed onto the footpath, knocking the wind out of
them. When they looked up, they saw flying cars, shiny trains and buildings
strong enough to withstand the full power of a hurricane. John brushed dust off
his clothes, sprinting down the footpath with Sam trailing behind him.
They stopped to catch their breath, leaning on their knees. Once
they able to stand up again, Sam glanced at the building planted next to them.
It read THE MUSEMUM. Sam joyfully ran for the door, disappearing into an immense
amount of people. John, begrudgingly, dragged himself behind Sam. Sam loved
museums. John didn’t. He thought they were boring.
They both skidded to a stop at a dinosaur exhibit. The
features looked very realistic, its eyes glowing in the sunlight. Both looked
at it in wonder. Suddenly, the arms and legs started moving, clanking as if
they hadn’t been oiled in years! The dinosaur started taking steps towards the
crowd, its enormous feet shaking the ground. People begin jostling for the
door, handbags and phones flying in the air.
John spotted abandoned ropes lying in a darkened corner. “Come
here,” John muttered to Sam, under his breath. As Sam and John walked to the
ropes, John told him his plan. He threw the ropes to Sam, then hanged them on
his shoulder. Sam and John scampered like mouse near the dinosaur’s feet, then
quickly tied a knot around them. While John tied the ropes around the arms, Sam
climbed the uneven wall.
Soon, the scariest part came. Sam had to jump through the
dinosaur’s mouth! John waited patiently for him, his expression telling him “Do
it! Do it!” Finally, Sam motioned himself and took the most gigantic leap he had
done in his entire life. He flew neatly through the dinosaur’s mouth, the rope
curling neatly around the back.
Sam came out flapping his arms, John leaping for him. Sam
sighted the golden cube below. Before he could react, he landed into a heap.
The cube then transported him. Sam woke up in his bedroom, John winking at him.
“We travelled into the future!” He
always then thought twice about touching a golden cube, for it might be a
portal to go into the future.
