The Waterfall (Recount) 31/05/2026

The Waterfall  The soft trickle of water brought music to my ears. I chuckled at the sight of my little brother stumbling over a mossy log. "Come on, John!" I called. "O-okay," he whimpered in reply. I shook my head. That wasn't going to work. Soon, I was dragging him along the muddy path to the top of the waterfall. His expression was terrified, but I could spot a little twinkle behind his eyes. Suddenly, he stopped, and I, unaware, tumbled into the mud headfirst.  EWWWW! Once I turned my body over, I saw my brother offering to help me up. I gladly grabbed the opportunity, and he pulled me onto my feet. "You look...ugly," he told me. "Thanks," I grumbled. Thunder rumbled as we continued along our treacherous path. Finally, we reached the top of the mountain. "HELLO?" I shouted into the sky. Only the growling thunder answered me. ...

Camping with my family

Camping   with   my   family   During the days of Friday the 15th, Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th, my family went on a fun camping trip. It was full with exciting events, disgusting bathrooms and shining lights around the campsite. Overall, it was quite unpredictable and joyful. DAY ONE- FRIDAY THE 15TH We arrived there around 1:20 pm and started to set up the tents. My brother, Sudu, and I both played soccer with Diyon, another young boy, while the two girls, Kiara and Ellie, both set off to explore our busy campsite. They first put up the large tent, which was then reclaimed as the 'kitchen', a storage area for our food and a place to cook and create delicious meals. The scorching sun continued to burn through the day on the horizon, as the adults started to put up the family tents. I had a little peek in our one. To me, it seemed quite small from the outside, but with an inside glance, it looked quite big. We also then saw the 'kid's tent', a tent to keep ...

The mission

The Mission   One day, a mysterious package was found lying on John’s bed. What is this? John wondered, a thoughtful expression plastered to his face. But as soon as his fingers were grappling the dusty letter, a deep voice growled his name. “John?” John spun around, clutching the letter with fear. “Dad?” he said anxiously into the doorway. A clatter of footsteps was heard, then John saw his younger brother’s mischievous face peeking into his bedroom. “Ben?” John groaned, putting a hand to his forehead, while slowly tearing the letter open. “Yes?” his little brother questioned. “Come have a look at this letter.” John replied. On the letter, in emerald-green ink, it said:                                                                                       ...

The monster

One day, Jordan found a mysterious envelope lying on his messy bed. He started staring directly at it, his mind wondering what was happening. Jordan felt curious. He really couldn't open it. It was too risky. Still, he found a voice arguing he should open it. The letter could be describing something magical or wonderful.  With a trembling hand, Jordan slowly stretched his fingers for the dusty letter. As soon as his fingertips touched on the sandy surface, they teared it open. Jordan looked at it closely. In emerald-green ink, it simply said: Come to the corridor running down to your dining area. Suddenly, a squeaky voice cried, "What are you doing, Jordan?" Jordan nearly jumped out of his skin. "Zena," he groaned. "Yes?" said Zena said sweetly. "Just come with me." So the pair went down the corridor and just before he reached the dining room, Jordan lost footing, plummeting towards a dusty ground. Jordan looked up as a struggling Zena slamm...

The Magic Stone

Once upon a time, there lived a small, poor boy called Zane. His house was a pile of sticks and leaves and every night he had to sleep on the rough grass. The boys at his school teased and laughed at him, leaving him broken in tears. "I don't like this life," he muttered to himself one night, his back aching. As he finally got to sleep, a storm rumbled, waking him up with fright. The thunder rolled and boomed in the sky, while the lightning hit the ground. Zane rolled up his thin, scratchy blanket and ran away. He ran like a cheetah through the pouring rain, his jacket flying out behind him. He tripped over a stone and fell down. Then, his world was enveloped by darkness. Once he woke up, he realized he was in a wood. Birds chirped cheerfully and bounded off from their nests. Foxes prowled around the trees, sneaking carefully, looking for prey to consume. Wolves howled in the distance, their cries heard all over the forest. Suddenly, his friend, Michael, was looking at hi...

Heroes

John was with his friends when a storm hit. It blew the trees and whipped up the waves.  S uddenly, the waves grew higher, reaching for the sky. “Oh no!”  John cried to his friends. Before he could even run, the waves were eating up the sandy beach. The water dissolved the sand, then came for the people. Everyone screamed, throwing whatever they had in their hands. John was swept away easily by the powerful waves. He looked up and saw a palm tree curving down towards him. “Help!” John shouted. As the tree crashed down on him, two arms grabbed him by the shoulders and clutched them. They threw him out off the tree's way as it crashed into the sea. John slowly felt the aches in his arms and legs. Slowly, he closed his eyes and drifted away. He woke up on the sand with Jack, his best friend staring. He realized that Jack was the one that saved him. Now he always called Jack his hero.

AN EMBARRASSING EXPERIENCE

One day, John, a young twenty-three-year-old, decided to go on a holiday with all his friends. He rang them up and arranged to go on the Thursday the 25 th .   They all agreed that he would be the driver. They arrived on the day before the holiday, with their baggage piled onto their hands. John had been very excited for the big day. His insides shook with laughter. He loved being with his friends, especially on holidays like this. He was thinking of drinking cocktails and screaming with joy when they arrived. “That’s all of them,” panted Max, exhausted from his effort. “We can leave now.”   “Hooray!” everyone cried, holding their cocktails in the air, then gulping it down their throat. They enjoyed the bus drive, seeing the young lamb and cattle graze the grass and held their hands outside the window, feeling the soft breeze flowing through their fingers. Finally, they came to a stop, which was the motel. “At last!” John shouted. Although the sky became dark, the...
